FOUR NEW EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS

The JCGS is excited to announce a further wave of highly respected scholars joining our editorial advisory board. Claudia Aradau is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at King's College, University of London. Leslie Sklair is Professor Emeritus in Sociology at the London School of Economics. Manfred Steger is Professor of Global Studies at RMIT University and Professor of Political Science, University of Hawai'i-Manoa. Illan Rua Wall is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Oxford Brookes University.

Claudia Aradau's research interrogates contemporary developments in the international sphere – from the governance of mobility and the prevention of human trafficking to practices of counter-terrorism – in order to explore their political effects for democracy and justice globally. She is an Associate Editor of the journal Security Dialogue and member of the editorial collective of Radical Philosophy. Her recent book, Politics of Catastrophe: genealogies of the unknown, co-authored with Rens van Munster, offers a critique of the effects of new practices of knowing and governing 'catastrophes to come'.

Claudia said about the journal, "The Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies asks difficult and timely questions about the world we live in. In diversifying the format to include not just the typical journal articles, but also essays, comments, interviews and book reviews, the journal is well placed to reach out to wider audiences and experiment with various modes of knowledge exchange."

Leslie Sklair has authored numerous books and countless articles on the sociology of globlisation and capitalism. Leslie contributed the article 'From International Relations to Alternative Globalisations' to Issue 3 of the journal.

Manfred Steger's authorship comprises 16 books, dozens of articles and book chapters, and numerous reviews. His study Globalism: The New Market Ideology (Rowman & Littelfield, 2002) won the 2003 Michael Harrington Award of the New Political Science Section of the American Political Science Association. Manfred contributed an article to the JCGS's inaugural issue: 'Globalisation and Social Imaginaries: The changing ideological landscape of the 21st century'.

Manfred writes, "Dedicated to a exploring the major dimensions of globalization, the Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies features cutting-edge articles from both established and early-career researchers in the growing field of global studies. Thus, the Journal makes a critical contribution not only to the study of contemporary global dynamics but also to the necessary advancement of transdisciplinarity in the rapidly changing academic world of the 21st century."

Illan rua Wall is the author of Human Rights and Constituent Power and New Critical Legal Thinking (both published with Routledge). He is on the editorial board of the journal Law & Critique and part of the collective behind the blog www.criticallegalthinking.com.

Illan said, "In these days of crisis, unrest and revolt – when the world appears to be over-coming itself – interventions like the Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies are crucial. The journal provides an intensive space where we can dispense with the usual platitudes and assumptions of globalisation. Yet it is not just a forum for critique, but also a space in which to discuss and deploy thinking that points to different ways of becoming-worldwide."
